The Bible
Boy, Mr. Bible, congratulations
You are 400 years older today
And you come here a long, hard way
Through fires and tribulations
From diminished Latin to English tongue
From God's Spirit moving upon men
To the quilt and style of the barren pen
Over the back of Ethiopia slung.
Book divine, book above all books that shine
Inspred of God, illumining the Way
Bridging heavens faith to human mind
Lamp from the wilderness, guide when I pray
Eternal hope of the ecclesiastical shadowing
The West may speak of Tindale
And John Wycliff, that morning star in the night
But also of what young Prince James had right
Before the throne's luster decked his sail
I just want to say happy birthday, Bible
Thank you for 400 years of light
Thank for healing of the darkness and our sight
Congratulations, and thank you, Mr Bible
