The Best Part of Me
I drag myself up - out of bed
With thoughts of her - running through my head
Wondering if she’s trying to forget about me
As she stands there - getting ready to go
Staring in the mirror - do her memories flow
Remembering all the days we played together in the sun
I think of her- on the other side of town
The way we enjoyed - just hanging around
Being together somehow made our worlds complete
I laugh out loud -when I think how good
She made me feel - the way she could….
help me forget about the crappy things in my life
Something about her - brought out my best
To Look at the good - and forget the rest
With her smile and laughter she showed me the face of god
But now I’m left - standing here alone
And with every ring - of my telephone
My heart leaps though my throat hoping that it’s her
Well here I am - as I head out the door
Going through - the motions once more
Pretending on the outside I’m still the man I use to be
But deep inside - I know the truth
I try to fool myself - but it’s no use
Because I know she took the best part of me with her when she left
