The Beggar

He was not yet old,
but his face looked wrinkled and torn.
It was snowing lightly,
but there was a warning of storm.
All passers by only had a short look,
and quickly moved on
 to finish this spook.
The man sat there quiet,
his head deeply bent,
and shivering myself
I wanted to bring
this sad story to end.
I walked across the busy street,
and finding myself no coins,
I gave him my ring.
He raised up his had and looked at me
not trusting his eyes,
what I put in his cap,
then a course voice answered:
God bless you my chap.

Nicely written. Many there are that get caught in this situation for one reason or another. Keep writing. Sara

I enjoyed this excellent write. One small thing check spelling. I believe you meant to say ( He raised up his head). Not picking I did enjoy this read.

The man you describe can be found on every street and in every town. All too often, his misery is ignored. It says a lot about you, Gert, not only to notice but to offer your ring. And the blessing he gave you certainly came from his heart. Extroadinary poem that motivates me to want to do more to help others less fortunate. May I echo this man's sentiments -- God bless you! Love, Carolyn
