The Battle Is Over

His anger he could no longer contain, She knew just which buttons would drive the poor man insane. What did I ever see in you he heard himself say. What have I done to have you torment me this way? He looked into her eyes but it was like no one was there, He said tell me what I’ve done, to make you no longer care. He said I don’t want it to be like this, but it is you that it is bringing it to an end, He said if I’ve done something wrong I want to make amends. Then she finally broke down and told him she had been pregnant and miscarried and it had taken its toll. She said I was afraid you’d hate me and I guess I let the devil take control. That day I had the wreck, I was coming from the doctors to give you the news, That you were going to be a daddy, but what happened I was afraid it would be me that you would accuse. A brief moment of joy, then shock as the news soaked in, Then he grabbed her in his arms and held her, held her tight within. He said that was why you were so tense and cold to my touch, He said I didn’t know, but don’t ever think I don’t love you cause I love you so very much. What is it about tears that makes everything alright, Well it did to this couple as they cried and held each other tight. Now there love is renewed and strong as a rock, As he sits in the delivery room staring at the clock. (A little boy)
