The Awakening

As I look at the old withered tree
With leaves so tired and dry
A feeling of sadness engulfed me
As I breathed a mournful sigh

I kept looking at that tree
That once was majestic and strong
It looked like a ghost of itself
And would not last long

Then I looked more closely
Moving nearer to the tree
As I approached it
Great joy came over me

Looking at the bottom
Flourishing profusely from the roots
I saw an abundance of fresh and new
Green leaf shoots
