Notes About The Poem

The Atlantis Soup Convention

At the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, Souper poets are drinking Bahama Mamas. Casino games are set aside every night as Soupers take the stage to read poems they write. Ladies dress up as mermaids and men as sailors, not outfits that can be found at Lord and Taylor’s. With many applause breaks and standing ovations, attendees are inspired to share verse creations. The thrill of conventions can’t be understated; members have personal encounters long awaited. Masks will fall from some who chose anonymity -- no avatars stifle their sociability. A winged warrior and silent one are revealed as all members’ true identities are unsealed. No longer will there be conflict on the Soup site; when we meet people, we’re obliged to treat them right. With plans for another gathering underway, adversaries’ best qualities are on display. Vows to interact online as they do in person are pledged by all Soupers without any coercion. Conventions like this serve such a worthy purpose and some long-lasting friendships are sure to surface.

A great idea to have a gathering of poets in an ongoing event. Beautifully written. Congratulations on your deserving win! I think it would be great fun to have a get together where I live as our climate is so inviting. I love your location too! : )

Hi Carolyn..I believe that we ought to organize Soup Conventions every 4 years, in different locations/continents! Smiling at the thought of 'unmasking' those who we've never had the pleasure of ever seeing their face. Now, let me go check out what savings I have in my piggy bank:) Hugs // paul

Strong message and awesome location, Carolyn. I doubt most of us would be able to afford those ultra luxury resort prices unfortunately...

Wow Caroline, I got so excited with this poem, imagine if it could be true - I am sure if we put it to the vote, there would be no "No". Beautiful couplets, enthusiastically penned, a joy to read! Poetry hugs, Jennifer

This one jumped straight out at me Carolyn, I've been there, what an amazing place it is, no expense spared. There's a boat park outside for all the ocean going boats, they are something else. Great choice for the soup convention. Good luck. Tom. P.S. I only went there on an organised trip when I was in Nassua I didn't actually stay lol

It would be like "Survivor" on this island, Tom. Soupers would play nice or get voted out. Visited Atlantis three years ago and had a ball there!
