The Artist

paint me a picture my grandpa would say
make the world come alive for me
use words for your drawing and feeling for color
help this old blind man to see

so I told him blue was a drink of cool water
the color of the sky
and white was a soft voice singing
a sad song the would make him cry

and yellow was a butterfly dancing
in the rays of the sun's golden light
and orange was a fire burning
giving warmth on a cold winters' night

and I remember my grandpa smiling
as he sat me upon his knee
he said he didn't mind being blind
as long as he had an artist like me
