The American Dream

Once everyone had but only one theme.
To live the American dream.
It was something anyone could achieve.
You just had to come here and believe.

We prided ourselves on our hard work and sweat.
But it will all pay off, no reason to fret.
Soon everyone started to see the schism.
So to meet our needs we introduced capitalism.

So now we fight over other countries oil,
and can't even maintain humanity on our own soil.
Everything has spiraled out of control.
And its us paying the toll.

But we chose to waive our political autonomy.
Now look what it did to our economy.
So what happened to the American dream, did the idea quit?
What happened to the American dream? It came true. You're lookin' at it.
