The Affair
They both know what they want
Yet cannot let go of what they have
Stolen kisses and coffee in a car
Before they part their separate ways
This is how the lovers would meet, cosy café, dark alley or street
His love for her died long away
Her fairy-tale marriage, just a great social media show
What will her besties say if they should know?
Will the boys hate him the older they grow?
Obsessed with her selfies she posts every day
He searches for love in a different way
Someday will come when her golden crown,
Sandcastles and all will come tumbling down
SHE knows about his affair and fling
Even tried saving it with marriage counselling
The thought of it SHE shunts with might
HER name keeps on coming up when they argue and fight
He rushes off on a romantic date
Always on time, not one minute late
Wondering if he is with HER, as SHE lays down his plate
Another excuse for again being late
His time is up, he has to leave
She begs him to stay…five more minutes…please, please, please
His phone keeps ringing, it’s her on the line
Where are you now? Is everything fine?
He rushes back home to his wife to go dine
Like a thief in the night to his side SHE would creep
Stealing his phone while he is fast asleep
Scanning his messages, every phone call
The sly little fox has deleted them all!
He yearns for HER but cannot call
He’s being watched like the mirror on the wall
He kills HER call, before SHE can see
He texts HER back, sorry, can’t take your call, SHE is here beside me!
Wondering smilingly, will he ever be mine?
SHE murmurs wickedly, No! Never! he’s mine, you’ll always be the one second in line
