The 4th
It just isn't the same at least in what I used to remember
Life was all but a game as now such fireworks are a blur
For a new time has now begun standing just off to the side
Not sure who really won, but still, with that old sense of pride
The cookouts still burn as the music plays in the backyard
But as we all have learned that life has become pretty hard
Always a new crisis ahead and no grudge ever left behind
Forgetting all Those who have bleed as they sat and dined
Stars and Stripes is still there but it's very Creator has left
The two used to be a pair and that being the greatest theft
Now they hush His Name, as in, out of sight and out of mind
Action so filled with such shame, before this, you didn't find
Yeah, today may be July four having so much to celebrate
And the rockets red glare soar as below the masses wait
But it's not the fourth I knew the one containing a prayer
Yes I know that I grew, but even so, God was ALWAYS there
