That Dark Time of the Year

It comes upon us every year
we know it's effect, so prepare!
but it always catches us out
even the trees are left so bare

We should be better prepared
always thinking I'll be next year
each winter brings its cold reality
but wish spring to catch my tears

Remember growing up in the country
early morning rise was such a pain
so cold then with no heating indoors
just thinking about it left an inward stain

Worst of all was darkness came early
sitting down at 5pm to have a meal
looking out after finishing our food
it felt summer gone, it was a steal

Encourage yourself it'll soon be gone
spring will come to show it's light
to remove winters dark dreary nights
your inward feel anticipates it so bright

(Just thinking on the coming of winter.)
