Tender Are the Memories of Summer

Tender are the memories of summer Wilting in the sun Nothing abates my inward hunger For battles never won Tender are the dreams of summer Tender as our tears That stain the heart and still linger Like love through the years When you were Dothnie, and we Were innocent and young We walked away so hurriedly To yearn the unclimbed rung O tender is the memory of your silence And tender my pretense And all their seeds are agonies And all our dreams are old ironies
