Tell Us Not

In days olden
When all was but rosy and golden
Together we used to play
Songs we sang, dances we danced
Even those for other tribes

Necessities we shared
For each other we cared
Compelled with compassion
We cared even to check on how others fared

We were toddlers then
Intact our innocence was
No tribe or bribe to divide
All to us were people
And still are
Elders are as they were
Smiles on their faces...
Yet in the recesses of theirs hearts
Wounds ancient still hurts
Inflicted by stories of by-gones
Told by those gone long ago

Tell us not
Of tales you were told
Even now as you are old
For these tales are thieves
Robbing us not only peace
But even friends, family and trust
Rivalries they breed
Fostering selfishness and greed

How shall we dance
Talk, eat, laugh, work, help, serve and build a nation
If you tell us tales of pain?

Tell us not!

from a heart which means it, a soul tired and sick of nations' rancorous behavior
