Tears To Weep

When I lay me down to sleep,
And cry the tears that sinners weep;
To speak the words of a contrite prayer,
And know that someone listens there.

He cares for sheep that have gone astray,
Who willfully wander their own way;
They vex the pride that hides within,
And drink the bitter cup of sin.

The web of lies and dark deception,
Lie in defeat of Light’s conception;
To capture all and destroy life,
With passion’s fire and human strife.

We need to plant the gospel vine,
Where evil rules and saints repine.
While martyrs lead with ransomed prayer,
With hope for life that tarries there.

Blood that was shed on Calvary,
Set slaves of transgression wholly free.
So we rise from the grave to seek reward,
Giving praise to a risen Lord.

Another masterful piece! Bravo, bravo, the meter is perfect as is the subject. A most worthy poem Elizabeth. Try my poem "A Specter Speaks to War" Unfortunately, the poem was too long for the character restrictions and I had to submit it in two parts, I and II, which totally throws the meter off. So, when you've finished part I then just hold your breath and click on part two:)

you must have some terrible sin in your life. i never cry about my sin. or never try to make those regretable ones that might attract an angels attention.

We all do things we need forgiven. While we're just trying to make a livin'. A friday night, a saturday mourn. We had no choice when we were born. So Jesus is our only hope. It's with his love that we all cope. Without him we'd be lost forever. With him, our ties will never sever.

This is the most beautiful poem you have ever written. I can tell it just came to you and drained out as if it were water. This could win any contest in my opinion. Once again you have made my heart smile.

Elizabeth, while I may not be wholly (or is it "Holy") in compliance with the philosophical truth of this poem, I love your style none the less. And yes - you seem like someone I'd like to meet as well to discuss the deeper meaning of this some times wonderful and other times very difficult and confusing world we find ourselves living in. Thanks for reading and commenting on my work. You're truly a kindred spirit and I hope we can stay closely connected. Terry
