Tears of a Drummer
Who’s the man behind the glass;
the husband and father?
Who’s the man who beats up
the drums; crashes the cymbals?
In the far corner of the stage,
behind the acrylic shields,
playing his heart out, oft unnoticed;
who’s the man behind the screens?
The pastor steps up to the pulpit.
He draws attention to a quiet man.
There is a child I’ve been praying for.
A toddler who was in grave danger.
Suffering in silence, the man and wife.
Beating of drums, crashing of cymbals.
Pointed out by the pastor; poignant
sentiments and regard. Story told.
The drummer’s head falls, tears roll
like a quavering reverberation. Applause
as child to come home before Christmas;
prayers heard and God’s granted healing.
This man likely doesn’t crave attention,
humbled by intervention. Praying hands
and hearts, he’s surely glad for.
Unlikely tears, of a drummer, fell unabashedly.
