Taken Care Of
I never knew
What you were, a boy or a girl,
Just that you were mine,
My baby, for a time.
Before you were sucked out
Of your warm little nest.
Before you were thrown
In the trash like the rest.
I would have kept you safe,
If I’d had the chance.
I would’ve loved you dearly,
If I’d been your “Dad.”
But you were stolen from me
Like a pickpocket’s score,
Discarded when empty,
Then abandoned, ignored.
I still can't believe it!
How I long for lost time!
The “could have been’s” haunting,
Like guilt ridden minds…
You were my boy, or my girl,
I guess I'll never divine...
But you’ll always be Mine,
My baby, in my heart for all time.
