Take Me Back

Take me back to when I was free
Growing up took from me everything
Just give me back the happy key

To climb a tree or scrape our knee
To be the highest on the swing
Take me back to when I was free

Growing up takes the fun that's free
It will fight till it pulls the string
Just give me back the happy key

Watching loved ones go hurts to a degree
It's a part of getting old, the whole thing
Take me back to when I was free

Getting older ends the wild spree
You watch things pass and leave, it'll sting
Just give me back the happy key

You'll miss your childhood like you do the tree
The pain will fly at you full swing
Take me back to when I was free
Just give me back the happy key

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Welcome to Poetry Soup. I welcome you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.
