Swimming With Dolphins

When my daughter was fifteen
we went on holiday to Cyprus
always a life long desire of hers
was to swim with a dolphin

Imagine her delight and joy
when we saw a sign for this
paying for her was not cheap
but maybe the best sum ever spent

At the pool we watched the display
then off she went to kit up
on returning she was first
boy he sure took her for a ride

When she returned poolside
that dolphin kept returning to her
though others were waiting their turn
the delight on her face spoke volumes

At the end we all got to stroke it
and wow I have never felt so good
its skin was like nothing I have ever touched
silky smooth magical feel, a memory that lives on

I even got a dolphins kiss
as I knelt beside it

Dear Shadow, Your daughter must have had a wonderful time as I know what it's like to ride with dolphins. Their skin truly is a smooth as you describe, no scales. And how magical that one bestowed a kiss on you! I was swimming in the ocean here not long ago and felt something bump against me. I jumped to my feet, fearing it was a shark. Then I heard the lifeguard yelling, "Dolphins!" Indeed, there were many nearby. Love this poem! Carolyn

I could identify so much with this one, Shadow! One of my favorite pictures of my granddaughter, Claire, is her kissing a dolphin recently!! It is adorable, (if I could I would post it to you....!!) Isn't that just the most amazing experience a girl could have? What a sweet poem!..... Oh, ps...I must apologize to you for my free-verse entry in your last contest! I didn't notice that requirement.....I'm so sorry to take someone's spot by my mistake! :)

Enjoyed reading this one..That was a magical moment for both of you..We went to Florida once and Dolphins in the wild would come up to the boat to be feed..Cody said he did not want to get close..He was about 5 or 6 years old at the time and said, "Look at the size of that fish."..Glad that you shared this experience with us..Thanks for the honor of placing in your contest..I was delighted that you liked my work..Sara
