Sweet Sound of a Senryu

prayer book we did tote
much time there we would devote
to church in Shallotte

had heard a rumor
each member baby boomer
or early bloomer

each song selection
seemed to cause an infection
needed correction

what we did reveal
choir had seemed so surreal
having much appeal

through prayer book leaf
when I did always was brief
often full of grief

prayer book did tote
much time reading would devote
to church min Shallotte


with songs were supplied
on choir singing relied
caused us to have cried

church we went inside
their singing kept us in stride
in them had much pride

choir seemed surly
hair straight or could be curly
some big and burly

loved them and each shred
singers had been born and bred
good food we were fed

sound was all around
to love songs we had been bound
caused our heart to pound
