Sweet Sorrow On the Cross
SWEET SORROW ON THE CROSS
Many say He was in pain
Many agree He was painfully slain
Many attest to His mockery and disdain
I do not deny or argue this truth
For He Himself wished the cup would pass forth
But one thing that many don’t know
Is that on the Cross He was moved to jubilate.
Before the Cross, He was scourged near death
He wept and cried and bled near death
And many enjoyed seeing Him go near death
I do not deny or argue this truth
For no man enjoys shame and disgrace
But many do not see the other face
For while He cried, His heart was filled with grace.
On the Cross He met our end
Not a glorious parting but a shameful end
An end He could but would not defend
I do not deny or argue this truth
Imagine the Creator dying naked on a tree
But one thing that many ignore
Is that on the Cross He was filled with joy.
See the light and believe it
His mission on earth was to save man
And He did so without complaint
He knew He faced a terrible fate
He knew this fate would be our faith
So He despised the shame of what had come
And delighted in the joy of what would come.
See His sorrow turn to joy
See the Blood and come ahoy
Not as alloys, but Him as all
The grace of the shame is to see you whole
The joy of the Cross is to see you saved
Come to the One who went through pain
But in joy; as He awaited this day.
