Sweet Shadow Trails
Celebrations! My younger sibling has arrived and I have the much desired company!
Jealousies! The sibling has taken my mom away and I am alone most of the time!
War! Being an elder my heart is larger than everyone's and I have to learn to share!
Care! Mother is tired or busy, and elder sis is mature enough to baby sit!
Tantrums! The younger sibling is howling demanding and I have to give in!
Smile! The baby has kissed and hugged me!
A smile curves on my lips
As my baby sis pulls my braids
No more a silent raider are her sweet shadow trails
She plays and dances on warbling toes
Gurgling with joy and my finger in her hands
Holding hands we sing song ring-a-ring-a-roses
Up in the air she flies as I catch her with hugs and chiding's
Loud screams at spooned oats to deafen my ears
Her feet slip in my heels, her tiny waist holds my big skirts
My bags she drags, long waits for my holidays
Narrating stories of my crazy campus days
The cherub listens in awe and gaping eyes
Beds assembled with gifts after the child falls
In deep slumber on her birthday eve's
My baby grows to joyful independent splendours
Her wilful spirit chooses her own caramelised grains
Her curly top flutters when she flips her wings
Along with birds of her own moulded feathers
Migrating into her own wonderful warm territories
Gathering twigs to strengthen her nestlings
My life remains filled with her lovely memories
Of war cries and tantrums, celebrations and smiles
