Sweet Day, Oh, Sweet Day

Divine inspiration received on my daily path of life
As birds take refuge in the wake of new born leaves
While scampering squirrels seek their succulent fair
My eyes awaken themselves to beauty, never perceived

Alive! Alive! The world calls out to me with a new voice
I can feel the presence of the waking sun on my cool brow
As I turn to see the burning yellow of the new morning
My heart and eyes take in all they can allow

Leaving my breaths short, yet so very, very deep
With new images of the day, in my mind, to always keep

Further on, along the same path, in the midday light
The air has turned warmer as birds seek their cool baths
Despite the heat, nature’s dwellers remain active this day
As I witness carefully and in awe from the safety of my path

Alive! Alive! The world rejoices in the splendor of the day
As all that exist enjoy the comforts, the gifts to us, bestowed
For beauty of life takes form and remains constant for all
Returning to God, thanks, for these gifts it is owed

I cannot help but smile and enjoy the day’s beauty bright
While awaiting this path to escort me to the night
