Swan Song
A beautiful swan glided over a lake,
Graciously no sound did make.
Children throwing pieces of bread
To help keep the swans well-fed,
They enjoyed feeding these majestic birds.
Until
Quacking ducks swam noisily past,
With baby ducklings following last.
People strolling in the sun
Peace seemed to reign over everyone
It was a perfect day
Until
Suddenly all was still,
The lake surrounded a grassy hill.
From the far side of the hill, there came a sound.
A heavenly song that echoed around,
The lake.
Everybody was amazed,
When through a surreal misty haze,
They saw the body of a mute bird
Who sang the loveliest melody ever heard.
Floating
Along the lake, peacefully unaware
Of the marvel left there
When it took its last breath
Impressing onlookers to death
Singing the inimitable.
SWAN SONG!
