Swallowed Pride

gluttonous beasts
filled by
the profusion
of their own pride
no compassion
only self-absorption

swallowed whole
by death’s jaws
now out of reach
embarking on their
immutable destination
into the swollen belly
of damnation
with no deliverance
to be found

dark & deadly
wise creation
stands before them
laughing in their faces
as he reaches deep
within each
ripping out their
black hearts
and shoving
their foolish
pride down
their own
throats
