Sunset

From my little nest,
I look to the west
In the late afternoon
Across the lake
To the eastern side
Past the houses
And meandering hills,
My eyes are drawn
To the colorful sky
and the dancing light
I am mesmerized,
a glorious sight.

This crown for the day
Speaks to my heart
And reminds me
That somewhere nearby
Over on that other side
You do exist and live,
An even better reason
To look to the west.
