Sunkist Summers
I adored the Chicago lakeshore!
The magnificent scent of Lake Michigan!
To a little girl, a dream come true, with
umbrellas of every hue.
Oh, the heavenly feel of sand between my
little tanned toes.
You know just how my little-girl heart rose.
Sandcastles, of course, we did meke!
And sand cookies, so wet and opaque.
We could not wait to get our toes baptized
by Lake Michigans waters
We'd run so happily in, as though we were her
long, lost Neptune's sons and daughters.
Splashing each older and swimming our very
level best!
There we were, young, tanned and after a
while, needed a rest!
The beach hot dogs there, were, I am certain in
God's heaven made.
We ate them under our very own rainbowed,
tinted, umbrella shade.
The beverage was orange soda with much
crunchy, crushed ice.
I'd give anything to taste it again, not once but thrice.
We walked back, full of good cheer, to the white and
orange North Avenue bus.
A poetess soul, in bloom in one of us!
