Sunflowers

SUNFLOWERS Sunflower comes from Greek words “helios” for sun and “anthos” for flower. Unique Greek romantic sad myth of unrequited love of water Nymph Clytie, who loved the Sun God Apollo, who had no interest in her. Flower appears to follow the sun, as it moves each day from east to west, Like how Clytie gazed up at Apollo and hoped to glance or look at her. One sided love, never reciprocated for Apollo was in love with somebody else. Wilted away by refusing to eat or drink because Apollo did not return her love. Eventually Clytie was gradually transformed into a sunflower by other Gods. Resembling the shape of the sun with magnificent bright yellow petals. Striking, bold, beautiful flower faces toward the sunshine, named after the sun. 7/12/21 A Brian Strand July 13 Poetry Previously Entered on 5/24/21 5/24/21 Sunflower Poetry Malabika Ray Choudhury Used: PS Grammar Checker

This Greek mythology has so much to it - unrequited love, the reason behind the movement of the sunflower and the compassion of hearts seeing brokenness. Everything pulled together in lovely poetry Marilene. Congratulations on your win. Blessings***

Thanks so much, Jan. I needed a break from my assignments, projects and I miss writing poems. Although, I am writing essays or concert reviews and I am drawing my last drawing project for the semester.
