Sunday Morning

Every Sunday morning, my family meets at church.
My grandma always called, to save a seat for her.

We sit on the first row,
so she could see up close.
Laying beside her is her bible,
She knows every word inside it.

One Sunday morning, I waited for her call.
She didn't even show up to church at all.
I left service in a hurry, I was scared and very worried.

As I ran into her house, there she was laying passed out.
I yelled her name she didn't respond.
I knew then, she had already gone.
As I watched the paramedics wheel her away,
Next to my feet was her bible signed to me.
I reached over to pick it up and on the cover was this letter.
I began crying, shes known she had cancer.

I'm sorry I kept this secret from my family.
But I wanted my last days to all be happy.
Of course I've saved you a seat, right beside me.
I'll be standing on the first row, in front of the God you already know.
It's beautiful to watch him, welcome all his children back home.

Such a sad poem, as a cancer survivor this touched me... how sad you Grandma prefered to keep it a secret...

Thanks, this poem isn't a personal true story. I like to write about real situations putting myself in that one's place. If it's not heart felt, it's not worth writing to me. :-)
