Sun
My eyes can see what yours do not
Not what they can't, but what will not
Your eyes search for what you subconsciously sought
A reason to flee, that your efforts were for nought
An actor in camouflage, you slyly play your part
The innocent man wronged, played for a fool from the start
You stay in character past the day's easy light
A comforting blanket in the cold dark night
Your hand-sewn costume so easy to wear
A perfect disguise but for one small tear
When you see it you'll know you're not close to opaque
Maybe step into your skin as you internally shake
And open your real eyes to your heart and mine
But under your blanket, the sun will never shine
