Summertime

Over pools the gnats are dancing
in the summer suns romancing
heart out burning heat – what ever
could a sick mans lonesome fever
cool and take away the sorrow
of an even worst tomorrow

In desperate hours time goes by
alone I stand don’t ask me why
the nights are short and days too long
when sad thoughts grow I am not strong
not strong enough to feel the bright
too weak to bear distressing might

Too short is night to hold away
the nightmares they release their lair
and come to daylight come to live
search me a shelter where to dive
is safe from frightening feelings face
find me a hide a peaceful place
