Summer Thunder

By Laura D
August 30, 2016

Approaching sounds of summer thunder
Ever so close and pulling me under
I'm forgetting the place I found in the dark
I'm losing myself; my soul to embark

I drift to a time when I still had a way
When everyone around, knew just what to say
But nowadays I stand on brittle, shaky ground
The thunder coming close; a truly searching sound

My forehead dripping sweat, revealing every pore
The face I have displaced is roaring out the door
Exposing insecurities that never were a part of me
A shallow face that makes me dream of losing posibilities

If only just a fleeting breath to feed my burning lungs
Give me an honest voice for every line I never sung
As the thunder surrounds my broken bones
Somehow I feel serenity, cause in this place I'm not alone
