Summer Rain

Summer Rain

I hear the first of summer rains
Pounding on my window pane
Farmers all are glad you came
Welcome! Welcome! Summer rain

Brings forth the needed harvest
Work to do no time to rest
From nowhere comes the summer birdlife
Life anew where once was strife

Don’t know where that storm came from
You can’t trust that weatherman Tom
Flooding o’er the new green grasses
Closing all the mountain passes
Destroying all the new mown hay
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again
Damn the summer rain
