Summer Place
I live in a small town
A few miles from the sea
When the season ends
And summer draws down
Seaford becomes a small town again
Townsfolk wave
And smile
Others, quiet and serious
Go about their business
With a quiet determination
I see all this
And I feel comfortable here.
At night when the streets are empty
And the town asleep
Forlorn traffic lights
Stand guard
On each avenue
Lost in the fog
Are the sounds
Of faraway trains
On steely tracks
Chasing shadows
And racing the moon
To catch another day.
