Summer Days
Cotton dresses and bare feet,
Running and playing in the summer heat,
Laughing and sharing as sisters do,
Enjoying happy days with no school.
Good food that Mama cooked
On the stove fired by wood,
Sharing stories with our neighbors
On the porch at night-
Those days were good!
Summer days, though long,
Were really very short-
Playing ball with neighborhood kids
On the old sand lot.
Such fun we had on summer days
In the long ago distant past.
If I had just one of them now,
It would be worth more than I could ask.
