Summer Bummer'

June has arrived-at last it is summer'
I'm up with the sun,(tho' in class I did slumber.)
But unlike others in that schoolhouse mob,
I can't be bothered to look for a summertime job.

Each day my buddy and I head to the beach,
Where a babe and a cold one are within reach'
One of my classmates is really a nerd,
His summer plans are the weirdest I've heard.

When he revealed them to me, I nearly flipped,
Can you believe he's going on his fifth mission trip?
He's going with his church to some exotic land,
But he says there's no time to lie on the sand.

Here is why I call this guy odd:
He'll be spending all day talking about God'
Maybe doing a medical clinic or perhaps construction,
And trying to save souls from destruction.

The last four years he's done the same,
Showing the natives love in Jesus' name.
I asked him why go there and work like a slave?
His reply was because people need to be saved.

He looks so relaxed when we meet in the fall.
And he says the joy in heart is worth it all.
Jesus entered his life and set him free;
My friend told me that Christ would do the same for me'

He said I shouldn't just be a beach bum,
But should prepare my heart before Jesus comes.
Soon summer will be over one I won't accomplish one thing-
But he will be joyously serving his King'

My buddy's here; party-time he we come'
How could anyone be so dumb?
