Suicidal Deer Next One Mile

Suicidal Deer Next One Mile

By Elton Camp

It’s onto the highway with a bound
Never bother even to look around

They must be unable to see or hear
No creature is as foolish as a deer

Then they run at breakneck speed
They’re suicidal animals, indeed

Into a car’s oncoming path they run
A sickening thud and they are done

What an inane thing it is they do
If there’s one, there may be two

If hitting one deer isn’t nice,
It’s far worse to do it twice

When “Deer Crossing” you read
The wise driver is going to heed

It may help little how hard you try
Because deer seem they want to die

nice one, elton! we once hit a fawn in the country and it was really sad. it just leaped out of nowhere. at least it was small enough not to do damage to the car, but we felt terrible. you've explained this very well in your poem...
