Such a Good Friend

I still recall the pretty girls. Yes, those at school with pretty lives and pretty clothes. . . One used to walk me home; we'd chat! Great hope I had that we'd be friends. At recess time, she’d leave me, though, and with her clique, skip rope. Her social ladder I would never climb. Years passed. That girl whose friendship I had sought was at a class reunion. I now knew that I was more than she had ever thought. She still was beautiful, and I was too! Surprising me, she smiled, then hugged me and said, “Wow, I‘m glad to see such a good friend!” Written by Andrea Dietrich Inspired by Michael J. Falotico's " I'm More Then What you Thought" Poetry Contest

Andrea Such truthful and powerful words. Wanting to be accepted and loved is all anybody wants. Its too bad when fitting in means losing true friends for fake ones. Nicely done Thanks for the amazing and flattering comment on my Train Of Pain poem

Midwestern values achieved in earnest. Not necessarily by parents who we're the sternest. Just cornfed peace of mind at heart. That serene place where life did start. It's grounds us with a sense of decorum. No need to worry if they think we bore em'.

Gosh you must have been surprised by that hug hey Andrea, I guess deep in her heart she wanted you as a good friend. Peer pressure of belonging to the crew and doing as they do sometimes rob us of precious moments. All the best for Michael's contest, love Wilma

Yes, time does change things. All those pretty girls I saw in my high school days are now over 80 years old. I won't say ugly, just drastically changed. Love, daver

Your poem has a very beautiful message here..No matter on which part of the ladder we stand,we can still be friends..and its nice to know that we were considered friends even when we felt left out of the circle..beautiful ANDREA..:)

Growing up isn't easy and peer pressure sucks to put it mildly! I knew a few girls like her. I guess we all did. They are usually the ones who are most insecure which is why they are the followers. I love the ending, hugs and all. Best wishes in the contest. Blessings, Rhonda

I never go to class reunions because there are people there I'd rather never see again. Good for you that you went and realized she knew you were a good friend though she was not. A fine write with a good message to it. My kinda poetry. God Bless, JB

No I poured out some soul in the flow...inspired by my mothers words that she plagiarized from someone. -"Stand for something or Fall for anything!...good words to live by I suppose. kinda cliche', but it works!

Very touching, Andrea. I knew girls like the one you describe too and at our last reunion one who'd been especially mean to me gave me a big hug like we'd been best friends. Maybe it was her way of apologizing. Great entry for Michael's contest! Winning wishes for you. Love, Carolyn

Good expressions in this write Andrea; i really like the insincerity and triviality then the ultimate realisation of the insignifigance of the whole thing: here's winning wishes..!
