Stretch
Between the rain drops I grew,
Long feet, arms, and ears.
The rest of me was nowhere near.
Never felt like I belonged.
Kids at school called me "Stretch".
As I tripped over my feet,
And couldn't play catch!
Momma said," You'll grow into your, ears, legs, and feet.
Everything will fit!
Like a dog grows into ears and paws."
I'm not a dog!
Didn't comfort me at all.
Poppa said, "Don't worry everything will turn out alright!"
One day I stood on my toes,
Held tight to the fence.
So, the rest of me wouldn't take flight!
A ballet teacher happen to be walking by.
He said, "Oh my, I bet you could fly!"
I thought that was a strange thing to say.
I followed him to the Ballet School.
Worked out with him every day.
Now I lift ballerinas over my head.
Toss them high, catch them as we both fly.
The ballet teacher was right.
I found my place at the Ballet School.
Went there every night.
Now when the kids call me, "Stretch"
I stand on my toes,
Do a pirouette!
