Streets of Solitude
They walk the lonely streets of solitude
unnoticed to the busy passers-by;
they’re clad in tattered clothes to fit their mood
while in their hearts a loneliness exudes,
and no one notices their silent cries.
You see them on the corners, sign in hand,
with pleas for help their cardboard signs convey,
these homeless souls just living life unplanned
and yet we fail to heed our faith’s command,
too busy now, we look the other way.
I say to you it’s time we open eyes
and look beneath our veil of just veneer
that masks our marrow with a righteous guise,
and hear the pleading of their woeful cries,
lest blessings we’ve been given disappear.
