Street Understanding

This is for the mothers whose sons are victims
victims to the street wars
having to go see their sons if they want to hold them
Knowing you can't call them to express the pain you feel
never understanding their reasoning
desiring to be soldiers
in a war that most are blind to see
Trying to provide for their homes
within the shadows
while money is made
blood is spilled
Chasing a dollar most feel they are denied
due to lack of education
being convicted felons
feeling their choices are limited and few
 Witnessing murders
more than enough to drive the average mad
haunted by images in their dreams
but still finding a reason to keep moving
 Steadily chasing their dreams
to get out of proverty
and to take their family with them
envisioning a day of no more food stamps
no more government aid
All of this mothers can't see
while are afraid of seeing their sons being handcuffed
or getting the call to identify him
your fears are real
Nothing can really take away your pain
when these things come true
even prayer don't help
it seems only like empty words
