Strange Ways, Here We Come

“Strange Ways, Here We Come”

the devil’s advocate
came waltzing
through my doors

“I had no choice”
the supercilious harbinger said,
“to intervene, to parlay away

something
not
mine

now
you're
doing time

not the criminal recidivist
nor usurping interloper
and their profound lies

every damned day,
what can I say?
it was staring us full in the face

the covetous harpy
is a clapped out pretending Peugeot
in dire need of a good panel beating,

now you,
you're a flaming
heaven-sent Rolls Royce

the harbinger
continued
on

knowing I had
taken the wrong voice,
an apology post-haste

gift wrapped in gold,
we should be delivering
to you instead, this day, point on

put the whole
sorry saga
once and all to bed

let the cards
fold
once and for all

this was a war in full bloom
not of my understanding
not of my world

we had no right
to come barging into
territory not ours,

it was yours
alone
it was yours

yes, we were
over-bearing duck flapping
mother superior twins

over your fence
into your garden
we came a trampling

we were blinded
by our self-importance,
so much wiser

we didn't see
you were planting
something solid

for the one beautiful flower

all the years you invested
through dark night wars of roses
you soldiered on

for the one beautiful flower

all the seconds,
all the minutes,
all the hours

we came frog marching in
where buried in the sand
were strange things

out of our heads
our intelligence all
emotionally buried

under 6 feet of sand
we were ostriches "
now interjecting,

the advocate
to the
devil’s advocate, said -

"the two of us
sat for nothing,
three, he said,

makes blood
thicker than water
united we stand

divided we fall
three little pigs
all blown away

we fell, we did indeed fall,
you, the tarot tower
we, your terrible wrecking balls

we were two
self-righteous
know-it-alls

lost
for
words

we handed on a platter
to the circling monsters -
those laughing abhorrent court jesters,

what
you loved
most

while the clanging
alarm bells rang
we let two angels hang"

screen fades to black
next scene transitioning, zoom in -
somewhere,

buried subterranean
in a dirt-filled
frozen Siberian plot

in the next world
the singing stopped,
but the dance continued

for waking necromancer,
red shoes on, was clawing her way
out through the dirt, erasing all full stops

love is love
but never
is forgiveness ethereal

the vociferous task of haunting ghosts
never ends for Silver Phantoms
cast from hot lux vitae titanium not steel

it’s never over
for devils advocates and monsters
rolling in pungent sticky brown clover

the war torn
story’s ptsd plot
repeats, repeats, repeats

lima lima bravo
this is
lima lima bravo

can anyone
hear
me

lima lima bravo
this is
lima lima bravo

a response
spectrally
whispered -

"Lima Charlie
lima lima bravo
I am here

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Charlie Foxtrot
Charlie Mike"

to which, red shoes
responds -
40 Mike Mike

"Bravo Zulu", commanding
the other spook says,
Victor Charlie Bravo 11 Bravo

I am close,
and
I am near"

it's never over
through hell fire loops
it dances on and on

it's never on stop
it's never on stop
it's never on stop

"Betrayal is the only truth that sticks."
Arthur Miller

"A child's spirit is like a child,
you can never catch it
by running after it;
you must stand still,
and, for love,
it will soon itself come back."
Arthur Miller, The Crucible

“Until an hour before the Devil fell,
God thought him beautiful in Heaven.”
Arthur Miller, The Crucible

“In an ordinary crime, how does one defend the accused? One calls up witnesses to prove his innocence. But witchcraft is ipso facto, on its face and by its nature an invisible crime, is it not? The witch and the victim. None other. Now we cannot hope the witch will accuse herself; granted? Therefore, we must rely upon her victims - and they do testify, the children certainly do testify.”
Arthur Miller, The Crucible
