Strand

Found a strand of long black hair
wondered how it had gotten there,
caught in a blanket on the bed
as if it were itself a thread.
Pulled it out and wrapped it tight
around my finger, for the night.

Jim, I love this heartbreaking piece which is beautiful but rather sad. I saw your note below and can only wonder about the misery this whole situation has caused. I am really sorry, my friend.

Not as sad now, of course, but it was hard then.

Ex. She just walked away. Still married, officially, but she hasn't contacted me or the boys in over five years. I wrote this originally a month or so after she left. She had black hair. Another of my melancholy efforts.
