Stillness

The birdsong’s interrupted by The lawn machine next door. I cannot hear the tweets and trills Above the mower’s roar. An airplane flies by overhead; The garbage truck makes beeps, But suddenly, the man-made noises Cease and there are cheeps. Though sounds of nature coexist With man’s cacophony, Cessation of the latter Brings a stillness sweet to me.

I get tired of " man’s cacophony," - and I live in the country where the only man around is the guy next door who rides his riding lawnmower in an incessant way all day long because of his MS he cannot drive a car.

I couldn't agree more, Ilene. Yesterday morning, when I have been accustomed to waking to the sound of birds, I was awakened by the street pavers equipment and the garbage truck beeps. I just got up. I couldn't fight either. But there were no birds singing! Good writing.
