Stephanus Marcus 9
Stephanus Marcus Book I
Canto 2
Verses 6 and 7
This hunting party time prepared that day
was preface introducing coup de main.
At Saint's new grandiose brick manor stay
Prince James would spiel his machinations plain.
At eventide when day's harsh light doth wane,
commitment made must be in place for mind.
The usurpation scheme, all free of pain,
begins when Richard leaves his throne behind.
Then wanting brave crusader knights himself to bind.
Duke Morley knew of James' intent to rule,
but wanted marriage date remain in place.
If nothing came of claim to throne at yule,
both reign and marriage saved as by His grace.
King Richard vessel leaves for pilgrim base,
to Ashkelon the sail would lead him safe.
There see and speak with Phlip face to face;
against much wait his eager soul would chafe.
But Ashkelon in winter no man might vouchsafe.
