Steering a Car on Ice and Snow

Trying to steer a car on snow
Is something I would rather not know
How to do, for it cannot be done
It is all kinds of weird, none of it fun.

If you have ever bowled in a lane,
Let me make this rather plain.
Your car is like a bowling ball.
Traveling into a gutter, down deep and all.

You watch it happen with disbelief
Not a thing you can do, as your day turns to grief.
If you think you can do this, good for you.
But what if we throw solid ice under your shoe?

Do you get in your car and try to drive on ice
Not listening to the radio who is telling you twice
The interstates are closed, the roads are a mess.
Why do you do this? Would you like to confess?

Trying to steer a car on ice, is like trying to steer
A house that is falling from the sky.
How to do it? It cannot be done.
It is all kinds of weird, and none of it fun.

Love the bowling ball comparison; it's so true.

Aha! I see that you have bowled. I am learning new things every day, M.L.

Driving on icy covered covered roads or highway is a nightmare for me! To avoid an accident (when I had to drive to work) I stayed home and waited until the roads were properly sanded. Fortunately, I had a very understanding boss.. Thanks for reading about those termites on the ark. / M

I was barely outside today, just long enough to feed the cardinals and robins, because we have solid ice from our house to my art studio which is just across the driveway! It was worth risking breaking a hip to feed my birds, but I am not driving anywhere on this stuff!

"All kinds of weird, none of it fun" is such a ringing, resonant line. It plays well in my head, and I think it might make a nice jingle/refrain for municipalities trying to keep cars off the road in white-out conditions! I just hear it over the radio. Nicely done, Caren! :) gw

I know that in Chicagoland, you are probably having the same ridiculous winter storm with ice right now. We have had two more days of school cancelled - today and yesterday! Ugh!

Thank God we have no ice or snow in Malta. But one must drive carefully when streets are wet.

If you want to know what it is like, freeze a pizza pan full of ice, and then try to control a hot wheel car after you throw it across, because steering does not good at all.

Thank you Maureen. Can you tell we are under solid sheets of ice today?
