Steel gray cotton balls hang suspended Sky blue sky accents each ball As the distant sun inches up Realizing the roosters call An acorn looses its hold and falls Lands on the roof or barn One ping upon shingled roof top Shrill squeal on barn tells yarn Dampness and cool opens this fall day There's stillness undefined Life seems to move slowly forward Good and evil seem intertwined

There is always light in the darkness, and it dominates it so much...even if it is so small as the stars...there is some light! What a beautiful poem this is Sara, I really love the title, though I prefer to use the spelling "grey" instead of "gray", it's just something that I have developed over the years that I prefer! Not that "gray" is incorrect or anything, just not my preference! I really enjoyed your last stanza the best, I thought it resonated very well with what you were trying to say!

Russell, Thanks for the uplifting visit..Grey is the Old English spelling..Gray is the modern English or American English way of spelling the word..Both are the same and both are correct but I was told in college by my English teacher not to use grey way of spelling..Sara

A great poem Sara. It reminds me of the acorns and squirrel here , as well as the weather lately. Well written. :)

Heidi, Thanks for the visit to my page..I guess that fall is very similar in most places unless maybe in areas of the world where there is not much change in the seasons..I don't see squirrels in our yard very often but we have chipmonks around here..There are squirrels in the woods and they come into the vegetable garden..Sara
