Stay At Home
I sit at home, nowhere to go.
An itch to go somewhere, anywhere, to find inspiration.
There seems to be little to do in isolation.
My mind begins to wander.
I look out my window and sigh,
suddenly something has caught my eye.
A passerby walking by with her dog.
My mind begins to clear the fog.
Sitting here I begin to ponder.
As I feel a sense of Sonder.
I think of all the people near and far,
I think of how they may feel,
Their lives also so complex, so real.
The thought crosses my mind again.
I wonder how they feel, are they calm? Inspired? happy?
Or do they yearn to be free?
Are they stressed, anxious or at their witts end?
I hope they have someone to talk to, a friend.
For some isolation is a time to relax.
For others it is when their deepest fear, can seep through the cracks.
So check on your friends that you hold dear,
Check on your neighbour.
Social distance, do us all a favour.
Now is not the time for animosity, or hate in your heart.
Now is the time for empathy and generosity.
Please just stay 1.5m apart.
By doing so we will protect our community,
Through our distance we form unity.
To relieve the pressure on our essential staff,
Trust me when this is over we can all catch up and enjoy a laugh.
Thanks to our healthcare workers, the front liners.
Thanks to our police, our ambos, our teachers, our brave kids too.
Thanks for all that they do to protect and provide.
In my heart I feel a sense of pride.
If we all do the right thing, we will get through.
Make sure there is always someone you can reach out to.
Stay safe, stay strong stay home.
We care about you.
