Notes About The Poem

Stay

Stay

I caught a glimpse into your soul,
it bid me to come nearer.
The brokenness deep in your heart,
like looking in a mirror.

Tracks from teardrops neath your eyes
I swear I could feel your pain.
I saw the wounds that have not healed
and scars that still remain.

Looking even deeper still
til at last you turned away.
Placing my hand on your arm
I asked you please just stay.

We don't have to talk about it,
there's not one thing you need to show.
There's so little you can tell me
that my heart don't already know.

We can sit here in the silence
in this moment that we own.
At least this time in the silence
we won't have to be alone.

Just you and I and tears we cry
we've already lost control.
Soon you'll see it's meant to be
we don't have to tell a soul.

Then tomorrow should you want to go,
I won't stand in your way.
But right now in this time and place,
I need you to want to stay.
