State of Our Union
The state of our union is so disappointing,
Elected officials become more disjointing,
As sins of their fathers becoming even clearer,
To ones never bothered that stand in the mirror...
They prey on the fear of losing protections,
That doesn’t adhere to the darker complexion,
Since 400 years of bending and serving,
Has taught them to feel like we're less deserving...
No matter what some think and hide behind,
We always know in the back of our minds,
That even though now we choose our name,
Emotionally it still feels the same...
And it doesn’t take long before we can sense,
What’s inherently wrong so we take offense,
When there’s even a hint of something unjust,
After so many years of building their trust...
No matter his color we all have to find,
A way to hold hands and somehow define,
What it means to be more than a resident,
Of the greatest land as we stand by our president...
