This is not an example for my current contest called, 'If it wasn't for poetry.

Written for Ink Empress's contest, Stars of Clarity -

'Without poetry for me, stars have no clarity.'.. Silent One.

Clarity, clarity, surely clarity is the most beautiful thing in the world, A limited, limiting clarity I have not and never did have any motive of poetry But to achieve clarity. George Oppen
If it wasn't for poetry, how would we portray stars of clarity? Moon would appear silently ordinary, how would we express that which is contrary?  Verses without stardust shimmer would be horrid, no metrical composition would sound torrid. No sapphire skies nor turquoise tides. No ivory shores nor firefly guides. No magic of butterflies dancing under moonlight. A travesty of no lullabies to ease before midnight. Horizons would appear blank, dismal and dark - your muted muse would forfeit their spark. If a poet's conscience suffers a premature death, how would you honour their quill's last breath? How would you express that painful goodbye? No legacy for our words to poetically beautify. Unable to honour memories of the deceased - an unwritten elegy cannot praise a masterpiece. Autumn would just be a modified season. Spring slowly blossom without a reason. Summer would bring no wonder in flowers. Winter would be grey with freezing showers.
Would music suffer from atrocious lyrics, unmetered songs only lead to hysterics.
Would poetic love exist? Would our lips have ever kissed? No expressions to defeat hate. No epodic justice to fate. No sweet sonnets to revere. Shakespeare's world would disappear. Romeo would not woo Juliet. Literature students would forget bards who bled ballads before us - what would lovers have to discuss? No angst or alliterations. No 3am damnations. No syllable creations. No lustful flirtations. An end to narrations. All lost translations.
If there were only ugly words, would it be the end of singing birds?
No emancipation of the oppressed. No catharsis for the depressed. Hearts would repress and suppress. Demons would stress and digress. If it wasn't for poetry, I would still be a mystery. I would not speak in rhymes, there would be nothing to define. My soul a misunderstood metaphor, drowning in an inkless reservoir. Life would become a burden, as petals die in my poetic garden
and after everything has been said and done, there would be no Poetic One.

Gosh, although I've so many favs from you, but this one really stands amongst the top ones! BRILLIANT and magnificent, dear Silent one...This one really kept my attention captivated since the opening line, throughout & until the end.. It's difficult to do so in long poems, but yours felt like it should never end!! Just sooo good & honestly, I love the vastness you've captured in these descriptions and particularly that ending blew me away too..I really admire the flow of this masterpiece as well

Dear Silent one this is beyond perfect, truly a masterpiece, i know you wont like me saying this but this gave me all the feels, touched all my senses in sheer eloquence, and the approach you went for in this is so very unique and would resonate with many artists and poets im sure. From alliterations to rhymes, to imagery and diction, i am blown away really, this is the best ever I’ve read for this contest and i must also highlight some of the lines that really stood out more than the rest-

“ If a poet's conscience suffers a premature death, how would you honour their quill's last breath” so evocative! “ Shakespeare's world would disappear. Romeo would not woo Juliet. Literature students would forget“ that whole stanza is beyond impeccable! And the ending too as well as 3am … that stanza resonates with me and i love how creatively youve played with words! A fave for me this is. Congratulations on your win

Words are only a part of you. I know that if there wasn't any poetry, your personality would definitely shine through. My best to you, Silent One. Hugs, Brandy

SO, what can I say as my head spins with amazement at this marvel of poetic delights and line after flowing line that reflect your poetic gift - "misunderstood metaphor," "inkless reservoir!" I love the use of call and respond. There is so much in this poem there is no room to elaborate on every elegant line! Best wishes for the contest, not that you're going to need them with this stunning poem born from a poetic master! Gratitude and blessings to you! Soupmail!

absolutely stunning. I'm wowed beyond words, Silent One! I loved how you addressed the topic....masterfully with imagery that gave me pause. The last lines struck a chord with me: "and after everything has been said and done, there would be no Silent One." Excellent beyond words, have a splendid evening, Sara

Your work has certainly brought clarity to many previously obscure areas of existence. Your poem dives deeply into the importance of poetry as a means of communicating the intricacies of the human experience. Your lyrical phrases elegantly capture the profundity of sentiment, the majesty of nature, and the transformative power of language on our view of reality.

I think petals falling and seasons are poetry in motion so easily discarded. You capture their dismissed descent longingly. Perhaps it's us, poets, who are banished from the Garden of Eden we try to bottle magic all around us. Without Shakespeare and thou, poetry is not captured by words. You make the mundane divine. Thank you.

Ooh, that last line. Sure to make your fans take pause. No poetry, no SO. You make a strong case for poetry here and what the world would be like without it. Song lyrics that never rhyme. Ugh!

No poetry, and no Silent One? That indeed would be tragic. This is a masterpiece! Your golden pen is so incredibly awesome. This is by far one of the most, if not the most, beautiful and perfect poems I have ever loved!!! A fave for me. You wrote this so well, if not for poetry, I believe I'd have ceased to be...a long, long time ago. Thank you for writing this, and all of your poems SO!
